Our young market lambs are naturally reared and fed only the best available grass hay with some alfalfa, free choice sea kelp, natural Redmond Salt and plenty of fresh, clean country well water. We do not grain our sheep, as it changes the omega's and does more damage than good.
They are absolutely never given steroids, growth hormones, or stimulants of any kind. Young lambs are ready for slaughter when they become available for purchase. Succulent, tender meat and no 'mutton' smell what-so-ever!
Why Hair Sheep:
- No labor involved with shearing or docking breeding stock
- No problems with wool rot or quality
- No area wool market so why have wool that you have to discard?
- Purebred hair sheep have never been found to have scrapie
Why Katahdin Hair Sheep:
- Katahdins meet the US standards for carcass size and quality
- Dorper Sheep have excellent Maternal Qualities - Ewes are excellent mothers and heavy milkers. Lambs are vigorous and have high survivability.
- Katahdins have improved muscling compared to other hair sheep breeds
- Katahdins are noted for their superior maternal attributes
- Katahdin lambs are vigorous at birth
- Katahdins adapt to management systems from full feed to all forage
- Katahdins have the ability to develop parasite tolerance
- Katahdins are docile and easily handled
- Katahdins are well accepted at area auction markets
- Katahdin breeding stock has an established export market
- Reasonably priced, abundant breeding stock-no pyramid scheme
While we mainly raise Dorper Sheep, we do keep several Katahdin Ewes. We are very pleased with the cross between the Dorper and Katahdin. Our cross offspring tend to be on the larger size and very
vigorous, and producing some beautiful painted colors.
